Lord Teach Us To Number Our Days That We May Apply Our Heart To Wisdom

I recently discovered the digital balance feature on my phone. Out of curiosity, I decided to check how many hours I spent online

🙆‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙎‍♀️

What I discovered was both shocking and scary. I spent an average of 8 hours per day on WhatsApp alone. Other apps had some unhealthy numbers too.

Before this time, I prided myself on being very good at time management but it’s all a lie.

I did a crude calculation and found that I live for 70 years, at about 7-8 a day on WhatsApp, I must have spent more than 10 years on only WhatsApp.

If you throw in other apps put together, the figure will jump to somewhere around 25 years.

Converting it to years helped me to take a step back and get my life back.

I’ve read “Digital Minimalism” and I know all about the steps to get away from my device.

These things are a continuous process because bad digital habits can creep in on us stealthily and take us back to where we started.

Try checking the digital balance on your phone and see how long you spent on each app.

So here is what I am doing to recover. I’m going back to having a separate device for only calls. I’ve also set a limit on all my apps. The digital balance automatically shuts down the app when the limit is reached. It also shuts down the apps once it’s nighttime.

Are you also struggling with social media addiction or overexposure? Why don’t you try my method or whatever works for you and tell me what you think?

Every sunday I get this little notification on my phone about the hours I spent compared to the previous week. I think the data is not very accurate cos I can’t imagine spending ~8hrs per day and still having a full time job.

But I get the rationale behind this article, Chizzy. And we can all do better, be more present and productive by keeping a tab on the amount of time we spend on our cellphone.

      I get you.
Initially, I thought so myself. But remember, it records our 24-hour activity.
I set 30 mins for maximum time to spend on my apps and 3 hours for WhatsApp. I always exhaust the time and I go ahead to request more.

      Unhealthy habit I tell you

This is a really beautiful awakening. I would get this digital balance app and see how it works.
