In memory of the Slain

Don't tell me how to grieve
If you have not walked in my shoes!

Don't tell me how to grieve
If you have no unmarked grave by your farmland!

Don't tell me how to grieve
If you have never discovered a chest of ammunition in your yard!
Don't wipe away my tears
When you are the cause of them!

Don't wipe away my tears
When you shoot my young men down!

Don't wipe away my tears
When I can't get justice for my unjustly slain!

Move on!
Be quiet!
Don’t play the victim!
It has been 50 years!

Has it been 50 years, when the python has danced five times in my home?

Has it been 50 years when my voice can't be heard?

Has it been 50 years, if I'm still marginalized?

Has it been 50 years if threats of a 2nd genocide are issued against me?
Don't tell me how, when, and where to grieve because the tears of 1966 never dried.

Don't tell me how, when, and where to grieve because the war never ended.

PS: I wrote this on 30th May to remember the 3 million people who died in the old eastern region during the Biafra-Nigeria war

Outstanding piece! Our heart is bleeding, how do we go from here… how can we stop history from repeating itself, it is not getting better

It’s not at all. I know hope is not a strategy but it seems like it’s all we’ve got
